Staff Development

Behind the roles, a teaching staff are people with real needs. Our learning objective is that the staff members of a school community are better able to respond to their own needs and the needs of people in their environment with greater skill, confidence and care.

Surveys conducted by AchieveNI highlight the following concerns among the teaching community:

  • Intense demands of teaching and its effects on personal health.
  • Difficulty in balancing personal, family and professional commitments.
  • Lacking self-confidence in communicating real needs.
  • Lack of positive structures in fostering a healthy lifestyle.

AchieveNI has responded by providing the following two programmes.

Programme 1: Self-Awareness and Self-Care

Programme 1 emphasises the areas of self awareness and self-care, using models such as 'Cycle of Experience', 'Circle of Life' and 'Mindfulness and Meditation' exercises.

Programme 2: Communicating Effectively

Programme 2 has as its main focus the creation of healthier personal boundaries and the development of each participant’s self-confidence in communicating assertively within a group setting using discovery methods, dramatic scenarios and relaxation techniques.

'One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child'
