BACP 'Making Connections' Belfast

AchieveNI co-founder Mandy McDermott and family where invited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) to present a keynote address at their 'Making Connections' event in Belfast on the 16th September 2013. This invitation followed the recent success of the 'Reid' families presentation held in London on June 8th 2013. The presentation focused on surviving childhood trauma. Mandy and her family's experience highlights not only their own journey into well-being, but also consistent failings by the Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Services whose duty it was to protect them.

Says Mandy: ‘We were thrilled to be invited once again by the BACP to be keynote speakers and present at their annual 'Making Connections' event. This event was particularly special to us, as it was held at our hometown, Belfast. We felt very privileged to have this platform and to speak directly to frontline counsellors and professionals, working with vulnerable children and adults. It’s such an opportunity for us and for professional people to learn and benefit from our experience.'

‘Our message is never to give up on people. We attend events and hear individuals say there is limited hope for children who have been abused. Our story tells you otherwise.’

The BACP event in September is the highlight of the year for many counsellors working with vulnerable children and young people.
